"Where Do You Go?" Composted Levi's 684 Bells
"Where Do You Go?" Composted Levi's 684 Bells
This project is a culmination of many voices, through my hands, and is very special to me. It’s consequently my most ambitious piece to date.
The canvas, being an original pair of Levi's 684 big bells, is the perfect conduit to display America's tumultuous history, and is at once an homage to the past, a beckon to the future, in existence NOW.
Coming together over months, this project took countless hours of effort, of love, to be fully sourced, stitched, and actualized, standing as a testament to what can be done, if you keep going.
These bells feature a curated selection of the finest antique Japanese indigo in my collection, pitted against antique American quilt textile and denim, completely hand stitched Sashiko style, and distressed in house. In opposition, rather, in harmony, are one of my favorite highlights of the piece, the 42 specially selected and hand sourced vintage patches, dating back to the 60s-70s.
Their purpose, a reflection of the times, a warped mirror of America.
"Where Do You Go?"
Swallowed by the night, in the belly of the universe, they lay together, upon the Earth.
He looked at the sky, at the stars, the clouds, and in absence of the rain, the tender notes of her voice fell upon him as if only to wash the mud from the poor drifter’s soul.
“Where do you come from?” she asked..
as if it wasn’t obvious that they had both fallen from that same false ceiling, all those billions of years ago, whatever that means, anyway..
“Perhaps, I’ve never left..” he said, trailing off, mesmerized by her reflection, the cosmos.
“…I know Why I’ve come..” he continued, and as if by instinct, meekly declared “..well I’ve come, for to Sing..
..and I’ll compost when my song is over, but only then…
and I’ll surely see you again, I don’t know how…
I don’t know when.”
Love, peace, and thank you!
